CONSECUENTES: Radical Performance from the Americas, April 28th, NYC
I am expanding my food art project titled CONSUME LOVE
(consumelove.com) in conjunction with the Gowanus Studio as community outreach. We are giving away some of our extra seedlings from a Bronx Farm planting last week. ***If you have the cash for plants, please donate the cost of the plants to the GowanusStudio (We are a community of artisans working to improve the relationship between the art and design fields, while making significant creative inroads for individuals and the surrounding community http://www.gowanusstudio.org )each plant is about 50 cents The giveaway will be at the Gowanus Studio tomorrow at 2pm-4pm 166 7thstreet(between-2nd and 3rd ave), Brooklyn, NY *****when we run out.......it is over***** *****I will take your photo with the plants and get your approximate address/cross streets to map the project. I would love for you to send me images of your garden, family/friends eating the food, watering, cooking of food, whatever you feel you would like to share about this process. IMPORTANT DETAILS: 1.These have to be planted in the next few days! OR you will kill them. Unless you are ready to plant, or will be in 3-4 days, this is not for you. Please don't waste this food potential. We got kale, red cabbage, broccoli, fennel, brussels sprouts, celery. 2.Seedling are planted on the 18" centre. That means. You only need 1 little plant for ever 18" x 18" square. DO NOT over plant, it will not give you more food. It will WASTE food and energy because the plants will not grow properly. It will go against this free giveaway and everything this project is about. So please meassure your planting beds to calculate what you can use. 3. Remember these are only the cold season plants, and planting season. You may want to leave room in your garden for your warm season planting late next month(ie.Beans, Cucumbers, Eggplants, Okra, Peppers, Pumpkins, Squash, SweetCorn, SweetPotatoes, Tomatoes, Watermelon) 4.If you are growing in a new backyard, I would advise doing raised beds with clean soil. Soils in NYC have lead or other toxins, so if you have not tested your soil yet, please do not take that risk. MAP OF PROJECT: HERE The Center For Book Arts, April 15-June 25 2011, NYC
